THE FOREIGNER - CLASS OF 2022 Studio Show, Nov 2021

Two Englishmen arrive at a rural Southern US fishing lodge. One of them, Charlie, is too shy to speak to the other guests. A plot is concocted to protect his privacy by pretending he doesn’t understand English. When guests start revealing secrets to the new “foreigner,“ Charlie discovers scandals big and small.

ANIMAL FARM - NOVEMBER 2020

From the revolution to the tyranny! First published in 1945, “Animal Farm” is George Orwell’s allegorical fable reflecting the events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917 and into the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union. A group of farm animals rebel against their human farmer, hoping to create a society where animals can be equal, free and happy, only to find some of their own are slowly taking the power for themselves.

Combining research, text work and intensive physicality, this ensemble production has provided a welcome challenge to our students during these unusual times and we are excited to share our creation. As we move forward into a somewhat unpredictable future, it is wise to remember the dangers of too much power in the wrong hands.

In addition to our regular VETA team, our study of Greek Theatre has enlisted movement specialists Ellie Cummings and Clive Duncan and speech specialist Richard Youman, all on board for our internal end-of-semester presentation of THE BACCHAE. VETA Head of Music Ariana Pullano has created original music for the script, which was adapted by project director and Head of Movement, Richard Knight. Choreography was provided by Dance Instructor Brook Hall and Ariana Pullano.

Project Director Richard Knight instructs students in how to turn tape and glue into character study in his Mask Making Workshop.

Teaching associate, Brook Hall sharpens THE BACCHAE choreography with VETA's first-year acting students.

Guest artist Ellie Cummings leads a Body Awareness Workshop, in preparation for our internal end-of-semester production of THE BACCHAE.

Guest artist Richard Youman works to match the student's vocal strength to the power and majesty of Euripedes' words.

Head of Music, Ariana Pullano, works on breath control, pitch, dynamics and how to sustain the power required for Greek Theatre.

Guest artist Clive Duncan leads the Object Manipulation Workshop. Students are introduced to bringing inanimate objects to life.
